Myocardial infarction is a terrible disease, which takes lives. Being an acute form of ischemic heart disease, it occurs when the blood is not delivered to any part of the heart muscle. If the blood supply is disrupted for 15-20 minutes or more, "starving" part of the heart dies. This part death (necrosis) of heart cells is called a myocardial infarction. Blood flow to the appropriate part of the heart muscle is violated if the atherosclerotic plaque, located in the lumen of one of the heart vessels, is destroyed under the load, and on the site of injury a blood clot (thrombus) is formed.
Myocardial infarction is extremely dangerous disease, the statistics data eloquently say. Only half of all patients with acute myocardial infarction die before arriving to the hospital, and this percentage is almost the same for countries with different levels of emergency medical care. One third of those, who are taken to the hospital, die before release due to the development of deathful morbidities. After a heart attack a scar on the site, where it was, remains for a lifetime - a kind of myocardial scarring on the heart muscle (based on http://medportal.ru/enc/cardiology/infarction/).
That is why it is so important to be able to recognize the myocardial infarction, and seek medical advice. This topic will be discussed in the program "Evening Talk", in terms of which medical director of Samara Regional Clinical Cardiology Hospital Sergei Hokhlunov will share his experience in the sphere of heart disease treatment.
